Not surprised to see they kept the old flip straw lid for the 'kids' bottles. The old ones were simple, functional, and much easier to clean. If I seal the lid and tip the flask upside down (immediately after drinking from it) I will get one or two small drops of coffee.

Seriously no idea what they were thinking with this new 'flex' generation of lids. February, 2022: We have had our two Hydro Flask 16 oz Coffee with Flex Sip Lids for a few days now. The mouthpiece also opens and closes much easier than past versions of the straw lid, so I'll be taking a sip, and the tiniest movement and the mouthpiece closes just a hair and it sounds like a vacuum as I start sucking in air. I haven't had issues with leaking, but if the mouthpiece is even just a hair off of being completely open, you just suck air. If youre in search of a no-frills stainless steel water bottle, the Hydro Flask Standard-mouth Flex Cap Bottle is a wise choice. I also recently got a standard mouth water bottle with 'Flex Straw' and that is also really bad. It's a nice concept, terrible execution though. You are right though, it's an absolutely terrible design and such a huge pain in the butt to clean them. I've had luck with my replacements, they haven't really leaked since I got them. Their lid was the best I've had but the coffee didn't stay hot as long as Hydroflask. then I got a cheap Contigo from Walmart and it worked great for years but started looking bad. I should have known better because I had a similar lid (before the Contigo) years ago and had the same problem.

The new lids have worked better than the first set but they do still leak and over time leak more often.
